Leicester City: an inspiring tale (part 2)

Having started the 2015/2016 season as one of the favourites for relegation, with only the 3 promoted sides ; Watford, Norwich and Bournemouth having longer odds for the title. MOTD presenter Gary Lineker, a Leicester legend said in July 2015 , that the appointment of the Italian as uninspiring, Tony cottee said he is "astonished" by the appointment.
Having made some signings like kante for 5.6m, Huth for 3m, Okazaki for 7m (a club record) and Fuchs, which turned out to be shrewd signings, Leicester seems like a team destined for relegation battle. They started the season in an incredible fashion and as the season wore on, followers of the premier league couldn't help but notice the scoring exploits of Jamie Vardy and their steady rise to the top 5 in the table. People believed they will falter and fall off ( initial gra gra in local slang) but as time went on, they kept up. As at Nov 2025, they were 3rd with 25 pts, 1 point behind leaders man city. They topped the league in Dec 14 after defeating Chelsea 2-1. By the end of December, they had amassed an impressive 10 points from a possible 15 after games with Everton, Swansea, Chelsea, Liverpool and Man city. Many guessed by February they will lose their momentum with tough fixtures involving Man city and Arsenal away from home. They beat the odds by defeating Man city 3-1 at the Etihad with Robert huth grabbing 2 goals and a man of the match performance. They were cruising at the top with 5 ahead of the others. Ulloa one of their strikers said during an interview after been asked the secret behind their success, " we play for each other, a team". They play for each other, fight for each other, no above the other, from captain Morgan to record breaker Vardy. In April, Riyad Mahrez who was bought for 750,000 pounds in Jan 2014 became the first African player to win the coveted PFA player of the year. Leicester have made"lesser" teams across Europe sit up and start believing. Their rise is borne out of strong belief in themselves, humility, willingness to learn, accepting defeat with a strong positive attitude, letting go of any sense of pride. These qualities have made them the most talked about team in Europe. Putting all these qualities together in any endeavour we engage in, will surely make us successful beyond our wildwst dreams. My dear readers, believe in yourself against all odds.
